We are the professional organization for everyone involved in trades involving the use of rope for rescue and work. On this site, we provide extensive information on professional rope access and climbing techniques, from safety guidelines and training to certification exams for rope access technicians. Our input in various panels and working groups benefits the continual further development of working techniques as well the constant improvement of safety in this field of work. FISAT does not conduct training programs itself; the training companies found in our membership list are responsible for this. The linked pages on activities and certification provide information about what else we do.

13 March 2010 Industrial Rope Access Cup in Leipzig
The 5th open German championship in industrial rope access will take place in Leipzig for the first time. Following the cups in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berlin, it will be hosted in 2010 where the rope-assisted access and positioning technique was practically invented. Since scaffolding was rarely available in the GDR, inventive sports climbers had the idea of using alpine rope techniques to assist in the renovation of run-down buildings. This was the beginning of the development of rope-assisted access and positioning techniques which FISAT has been promoting ever since the fall of the Wall.

The world’s leading trade fair for work safety and health took place from 3 to 6 November, again in Düsseldorf. On the fair’s four days, 55,800 professionals attended to gather information from 1,541 exhibitors from 62 countries about the latest trends in the areas of work safety and company health promotion and safety management.
FISAT used this opportunity among other things to demonstrate rope access techniques to profes-sionals at its exhibition stand. But this year, the focus was on FISAT’s multilevel certification system for rope access technicians, offering the greatest possible clarity and safety for users and con-tractors.
On the first day of the trade fair, President Bernd Redlin and General Secretary Frank Seltenheim formally presented the first in the new series of unforgeable photo ID cards. Dirk Otto, company manager for new developments at the suspended platform company Asmus and master electrical engineering technician, completed the basic course in rope-access techniques in October and then passed the subsequent FISAT examination. “After the one-week course, I feel a lot more safe in using rope access techniques,” said the forty-one-year-old recipient of the new ID. For Asmus employees, the course is a supplemental qualification in case a suspended platform suddenly stops working. “In such emergencies, we no longer have to wait for the fire department to come, but can rescue ourselves using rope-access techniques,” says Otto.

In future, all FISAT-certified high-altitude workers will receive a forgery proof ID in credit-card format whose validity is dependent upon the holder’s completion of an annual refresher course. This measure minimizes risk of accident for users and provides employers and/or contractors with the assurance of having fulfilled legal requirements. Anyone carrying a FISAT ID always works according to the most up-to-date safety standards worldwide for this access technique.
With this new certificate ID, FISAT is reacting to the requirements of an expanding market. With the number of high-altitude workers used around the globe increasing, their competence plays an ever greater role. A FISAT certification means safety on the highest level, for users and project managers.
